New Hire Roundup: Advisor Software Adds Nguyen as Chief Technology Officer

This week in personnel announcements and new hires, Thuyen Nguyen and Kevin Kraus joined Advisor Software; David Hutchinson went to AssetMark; Hartford Funds added three advisor consultants; and Vito Sciaraffia joined Innealta Capital.

Also, Michael Kreps rejoined Groom Law Group; Moira Lowe moved up at Saybrus Partners; Geoffrey Seeto joined New Forests; NFP Advisor Services promoted Mike Pedlow; and Jenna Guenther moved up at Ascent Private Capital Management.

Nguyen, Kraus Join Advisor Software

Advisor Software has announced that Thuyen Nguyen has joined as chief technology officer and Kevin Kraus has joined as vice president of product management. Both will report to Andrew Rudd, founder and CEO.

Nguyen has more than 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur and a senior executive in the investment services industry. Prior to joining, he was the CEO and CTO for Data Agent LLC.

Kraus has more than 20 years of financial services experience at Charles Schwab, where he held numerous client and product management roles.

AssetMark Adds Hutchinson

AssetMark Inc. has announced that David Hutchinson has joined as midwest divisional manager, a new position. He reports to Michael Kim, executive vice president, national sales and consulting leader.

Hutchinson previously served as managing director at a startup turnkey asset management firm. Prior to that, he held senior sales leadership positions with Schwab Institutional. He also spent several years at Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services as a vice president in sales and relationship management.

Hartford Funds Welcomes Three

Hartford Funds has announced that Tom Scanlan, Tom Monks and Nick Hammer have joined as advisor consultants, Scanlan supporting Washington, Maryland and northern Virginia, Monks supporting Los Angeles and Hammer supporting Arizona and New Mexico.

Scanlan earlier served in similar roles for PIMCO, Invesco and Federated Investors. Monks previously worked for First Trust Portfolios and Invesco, in both cases as a vice president. Hammer previously was a client advisor for J.P. Morgan Asset Management and regional VP for Genworth Financial.

Sciaraffia Joins Innealta

Innealta Capital has announced that Vito Sciaraffia, Ph.D., has joined as vice president of investment strategy. He will work directly with Gerald Buetow, chief investment officer, and with the investment committee.

Sciaraffia most recently was a senior researcher at Dimensional Fund Advisors; prior to that, he was an assistant professor of finance in the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Earlier in his career, he was an investment banker at Citigroup and a risk analyst at JPMorgan.

Kreps Rejoins Groom Law Group

Groom Law Group, Chartered, has announced that Michael Kreps has rejoined the firm as principal.

Kreps, who began his career at Groom, spent the past five years at the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, managing the committee’s retirement agenda.

Lowe Advances at Saybrus

Saybrus Partners Inc. has announced that Moira Lowe, principal and president of Saybrus Equity Services Inc., has been named chief administrative officer in addition to her existing roles. She reports to Edward Cassidy, managing principal.

Lowe was one of the founders of Saybrus Partners in 2009 and was named principal. In 2010, she was named president and CEO of the company’s new wholly owned broker-dealer and assumed numerous additional responsibilities over the next several years. Prior to joining, she held roles such as senior counsel and chief compliance officer at financial services organizations including The Phoenix Cos. Inc., Tower Square Securities and Sun Life Financial.

Seeto Joins New Forests

Sustainable real assets investment manager New Forests, operating in the Asia-Pacific region and the U.S., announced that Geoffrey Seeto has been appointed as managing director for the company’s Asian business, which is based in Singapore. New Forests Asia was established in 2008 and is the manager of the Tropical Asia Forest Fund (TAFF), a $170 million fund investing in sustainable timber plantations in Southeast Asia. Seeto will be responsible for overseeing investment of TAFF; in addition, he will be a member of the investment committee, executive committee and New Forests’ Asian management committee.

Seeto brings more than 20 years of experience in private markets investment, particularly in infrastructure and Asian private equity. His experience includes diverse senior roles in private equity in the infrastructure, natural resources and energy sectors.

Pedlow Promoted at NFP Advisor Services

NFP Advisor Services has announced the promotion of Mike Pedlow to chief compliance officer.

Previously, Pedlow was vice president and investment advisory compliance officer; he also serves as the CCO of Washington Wealth Management LLC, an affiliate of NFP Advisor Services. With more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, he was earlier with Raymond James supervising the RIA compliance programs.

Guenther Advances at Ascent Private Capital Management

U.S. Bank Wealth Management has announced that Jenna Guenther has been named managing director of wealth strategy for Ascent Private Capital Management in Denver.

Previously, Guenther served as a director of wealth planning with Ascent’s center for wealth impact planning.

AMI Asset Management Adds Two to Bolster Equity Research, Marketing

AMI Asset Management, a Los Angeles-based investment management firm focued on domestic long-only growth equities, has added two members to its team to bolster its equity research and marketing efforts.

Andrew Zamfotis has been hired as a senior equity analyst. Prior to joining AMI, Zamfotis was a senior analyst at EVA Dimensions, an equity research firm focused on economic profit-based models and previously was a financial analyst at the long/short hedge fund LeGarde Capital Management LLC in New York. He began his career at the Halyard Capital Fund, a private equity fund where he was responsible for investments in technology, media, internet and telecommunications companies. Zamfotis, who is a chartered financial analyst and graduate of New York University’s Stern School of Business, will initially be responsible for covering the technology sector.

Betsy Santoyo has also been hired as marketing associate to help continue the rapid growth the firm is experiencing in the institutional space. She most recently worked at Oracle Corp. in Boston, where she was an inside sales consultant. She will assist with all facets of the business development and client service operations.
