2 things to consider before you hire an SEO firm

Effective SEO takes serious commitment and at least a little know-how—two things you may not have the time for. A company that specializes in SEO may be the perfect solution, but how do you pick the right one?

Here are two important things to consider when choosing an SEO firm:

1.     Needs. It’s tough to pick the right company for your intended results if you don’t know what those results are. You might even choose the right provider, but if you can’t tell them what you need, they will struggle to help you. While you may know you want to push your website higher on a list of search-engine results, there are many ways to go about it and each website needs to do something slightly different in order to accomplish that.

For instance, are you trying to get more high-quality links back to your page? Or how about getting rid of harmful back-links? If links are your primary issue, find an SEO firm that specializes in link auditing. Other specializations include on-page optimization and pay-per-click management.

2.     Local SEO. One area you might want to take into special consideration, especially if you’re a small business, is whether an SEO firm can offer you success locally. The release of Google’s Pigeon update in 2014 was aimed at increasing the ranking of local listings in a search. If your clients are clustered in a specific area, finding an SEO firm that focuses on improving local rankings may be well worth your money.

Your ranking in an online search can have a tremendous impact on your success. If you haven’t already done so, allocate some resources to SEO so your next prospect can find you quickly and easily.
