The federally run public exchange programs are bringing in in the most customers in Florida and the smallest number in North Dakota.

Officials at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have shed some light on state-level Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) 2015 open enrollment period activity by providing state-level exchange plan enrollment data for the first time. HHS exchange open enrollment started Nov. 15 and is set to end Feb. 15.

HHS runs the individual PPACA exchange programs in 37 states.

The HHS-run exchanges received a total of 332,318 applications during the week that ended Jan. 9, and they received qualified health plan (QHP) selection information for 163,050 people.

The HHS exchanges have received applications for 8.8 million people and QHP selection information for 6.8 million people.

At the state level, Florida is the leader. Residents there have submitted QHP selection information for 1.2 million people. The exchanges have also received QHP selection information for 859,377 people in Texas and 434,503 people in North Carolina.

The other states in which the HHS exchanges have received QHP selection information for more than 100,000 people are Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The HHS exchanges have attracted just 14,973 QHP selections in North Dakota. Other states with QHP selection information for fewer than 20,000 people include Alaska, Delaware, South Dakota and Wyoming.
