Raymond James (RJF) said Thursday that it appointed Frank McAleer as its new director of retirement solutions.

McAleer fills the position previously held by Shannon Reid, who was promoted in May to vice president of Raymond James’ private client group education and practice management.

“Frank brings 29 years of industry experience to lead our efforts to empower advisors with thought leadership, advisory technology and practical guidance to address the evolving needs of their clients who are planning for, nearing or living in retirement,” said Patrick O’Connor, senior vice president of Wealth, Retirement & Portfolio Solutions at Raymond James, in a statement.

Before coming to Raymond James, McAleer was a senior vice president and head of managed and income solutions with Janney Montgomery Scott in Philadelphia; he led the sales and marketing of managed account, mutual fund and retirement income offerings, including the design and launch of a retirement-planning software platform.

“Client expectations are evolving beyond a basic retirement income analysis to include guidance on prioritizing their life goals and the financial trade-offs of navigating the new longevity,” O’Conner explained. “Frank will address this challenge for Raymond James by building upon the firm’s financial planning heritage and success of our Goal Planning & Monitoring software, which since its launch nearly two years ago has transformed the advisor-client experience and has helped our advisors uncover over $40 billion in new assets.”

In addition to his work at Janney Montgomery Scott, McAleer held leadership roles at Merrill Lynch, Fidelity, Old Mutual and Planco.

Raymond James will report earnings results for the quarter ended June 30 on Wednesday.
