Ryan Thorn has taken over from Tom Harte as the president of National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). NAHU represents about 100,000 health insurance agents and brokers.

Thorn is the president of Ryan P. Thorn Insurance Planning Inc. in South Jordan, Utah. In May 2013, he represented NAHU at a hearing on an annual fee imposed on health insurers by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).

“I believe there is an inherent unfairness in the concept of financing health reform on the backs of people who are doing the right thing by buying private coverage,” Thorn testified.

Thorn said in a statement that NAHU members are well-positioned to guide people through a complex and confusing time.

The new president-elect is Don Goldmann of Word & Brown, one of the fathers of the modern private exchange concept.

The other new officers are Jim Stenger of Fort Myers, Fla., vice president; Johnny Dawkins of Fayetteville, N.C., treasurer; and Mike Embry of Chesterfield Township, Mich., secretary.

You can see Thorn’s testimony from 2013 in the video below.
