New Hire Roundup: NAPA Announces New President

This week in personnel announcements and new hires, Jeffrey Cerutti was named CEO of AMG Funds; Westport Resources added a mutual fund team to its staff; and Raymond James has hired Peter Alberding and Warren Wright.

Also, Steven Dimitriou was named president of the National Association of Plan Advisors; the Phoenix Companies announced that Naomi Baline Kleinman has added treasurer to her current responsibilities; and the SEC announced that G. Jeffrey Boujoukos has been named associate regional director for enforcement in its Philadelphia office.

NAPA Announces New President

The National Association of Plan Advisors has announced that Steven Dimitriou has been named president, succeeding founding president Marcy Supovitz.

Dimitriou, a managing partner at Mayflower Advisors LLC, in Boston, has more than 20 years of experience in the retirement plan industry, with a particular focus on participant-directed plans. Prior to forming Mayflower Advisors, he was a managing director at H. C. Wainwright & Co., a vice president at BT Alex Brown, and one of the original members of the retirement sales team at MFS Inc. in Boston.

Affiliated Managers Group Names Cerutti CEO of AMG Funds

Affiliated Managers Group Inc. has named Jeffrey Cerutti chief executive officer of AMG Funds, a newly created position. In this role, he will be responsible for setting the strategy for AMG Funds. He will be based in Norwalk, Conn., and will report to Andrew Dyson, AMG’s executive vice president and head of global distribution.

Cerutti joins from Virtus Investment Partners, where he most recently was executive vice president, head of distribution, responsible for the distribution of all investment products across all channels and platforms. Prior to that, he served as managing director, head of national sales at UBS Global Asset Management.

Mutual Fund Team Joins Westport Resources

Westport Resources has added a team of three managing directors to its staff. Paul LaBossiere, Michael Portnoy and Mark Tonucci, who all joined from Trust Advisory Partners LLC, specialize in creating mutual funds by utilizing the experience of hedge fund managers. LaBossiere is responsible for strategic planning and relationship management. Portnoy serves as portfolio manager for the ALPS/Westport Resources Hedged High Income Fund. Tonucci is portfolio manager for the ALPS/Westport Resources Hedged High Income Fund.

For the past 19 years, LaBossiere has focused on alternative asset management. Prior to Trust Advisory Partners, he was at Gabelli & Partners. His past experience includes senior roles at Innovest Capital, as well as HSBC Asset Management. Previous positions include JP Morgan Investment Management and Bank of America.

From 2009 to 2011, Portnoy was a vice president of public investments for Hatteras Funds, where he was the portfolio manager of the Hatteras Alternative Mutual Funds, formerly the AIP Funds. Over a nearly 40-year career, he has developed and managed numerous investment products, including the Managers Funds, developed at Evaluation Associates in the 1980s and now owned by Affiliated Managers Group; Trust Advisors Equity Plus and Twin Plus, two multimanager market-neutral equity funds; and various liquid investment products.

Tonucci has 40 years of experience as a portfolio manager and research analyst in the hedge fund, mutual fund and trust industries and was most recently a portfolio manager for Hatteras Alternative Mutual Funds. From 1996 to 2009 Tonucci served as managing director at Trust Advisors LLC. Prior to forming Trust Advisors LLC, he was a senior vice president at Evaluation Associates.

Raymond James Adds Two Managers

Raymond James has hired Peter Alberding and Warren Wright to expand the firm’s employee branches in the Boston and Washington, D.C., areas. Alberding has been appointed branch manager of what will be the first RJA retail office in Boston’s downtown financial district, opening in April. Wright has been appointed mid-Atlantic complex manager, based in the firm’s Pennsylvania Avenue branch in Washington.

Alberding comes to RJA from UBS, where he spent the majority of his career. He began as a financial advisor in 1997 with PaineWebber, later becoming a sales manager in its downtownBostonbranch. During the course of his tenure with UBS, he worked not only as a financial advisor, but also a branch and complex manager and spent three years working in UBS’ domestic wealth management business based inSwitzerland. He was also, for a period of time, COO of their western U.S. division based inChicago.

Wright held a number of roles with Morgan Stanley and its predecessor firm, Smith Barney, including branch manager and complex business development manager. Prior to joining Smith Barney in 2008, he spent 10 years at Merrill Lynch’s flagship Washington office, where he built an advisory practice and was also a sales manager.

Kleinman Adds Post at Phoenix Cos.

Naomi Baline Kleinman has been named treasurer at the Phoenix Cos., in addition to her existing duties as vice president, investor relations. She assumed the treasurer role from Bonnie Malley, executive vice president and chief financial officer, and continues to report to Malley.

Kleinman has served in a variety of finance positions, played critical roles in a range of strategic projects including the company’s 2001 demutualization, disposition of nonstrategic assets and businesses and various financing transactions, and was chief of staff to the CEO. She has managed rating agency relations since 2001 and investor relations since 2009. Prior to joining, she worked at Connecticut Mutual in positions of increasing responsibility in investments and corporate finance.

Boujoukos Named by SEC as Assistant Regional Director in Philadelphia

The SEC has announced the appointment of G. Jeffrey Boujoukos as assistant regional director for enforcement in its Philadelphia office. In his new role, he will oversee that office’s enforcement efforts covering the mid-Atlantic region.

As the regional trial counsel since joining the SEC in 2009, he has supervised the Philadelphia office’s trial unit. Prior to joining, he was an associate and later a partner in the litigation department of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Philadelphia.
