Love is in the air or maybe it’s a low-pressure system building in the atmosphere. Do you feel as giddy as I do about Fabulous February?

Perhaps I shouldn’t have had that second Red Bull after all.

Whatever the reason for the joy, I want to introduce you to the “best of” list. Each month in this column, I’ll offer a list of things for you to apply, do, think, see, listen to, etc.

With this being February, the month of Valentine’s Day, the best of list offers plenty of wise words on how to show your clients the love they deserve. It’s also a time to take stock in how your new year is progressing. Read on. Enjoy.

The best of everything…

                                 …This month.

Word: Cede. To yield or formally surrender to another: “I cede my heart to you.” Source: Dictionary.com

Quote:All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.Charles M. Schulz

Blog:
Brian Tracy’s Blog. “The whole secret of personal success is to find out what your calling is, and then do it. The great question for success is, what are the habits of successful people? Why is it that some people have positive thinking patterns, while others do not? What determines your self-concept for success? ” Source: “4 MUST KNOW Habits of All Highly Successful People,” briantracy.com/blog/

Podcast: Wall Street Journal This Morning. Clocking in at 30 minutes, it’s a great source to grab the first news of the day whether you listen while walking on the treadmill or driving to work.

Sales tip: “You are wrong to believe that people want the lowest price. You are wrong to believe that people won’t pay more for a better experience. You are wrong to believe that people won’t invest more to avoid certain risks. People want to pay more, but they need you to create greater value.” Source: ANTHONY IANNARINO

Marketing tip:  Use an online event registration system. If you host events, eliminate phone and e-mail RSVPs, and, instead, use an online registration system. Using a system like this helps reduce the number of “no shows” and improves the follow-up process, both common headaches when hosting events. I recommend EventBrite.com because there is no cost to use the system for your free events, and it enables you to accept payments for paid events at a nominal fee. Source: Kristen Luke

Book (Fiction): “When The Sacred Ginmill Closes” by Lawrence Block. ginmillI’ve been working my way through Block’s seventeen Matthew Scudder detective novels and “Ginmill” may be my favorite.
Deriving its name from the Dave Van Ronk song, “Last Call,” this Scudder mystery is a fabulous title for a book and a heckuva of a good mystery to boot.

App: Lumosity. After studying the affects alzheimer’s has on the brain, I wanted to research ways to keep mine sharp. Lumosity is part of the Human Cognition Project and offers terrific brain games to help the user train their memory and attention.

Tech toy: Wii Resort, Table Tennis. I’m addicted to this game but have a terrible case of table tennis elbow. Ow!

On HuluPlus: Sherlock. sherlock AP imageThis latest incarnation of the world’s greatest detective is one of the best so far and much more palatable than the ridiculous Hollywood version starring Bob Downey Jr. Whether you find it on Hulu or elsewhere, track it down. As actor Benedict Cumberbatch said about playing Holmes: “There’s a great charge you get from playing him, because of the volume of words in your head and the speed of thought—you really have to make your connections incredibly fast. He is one step ahead of the audience, and of anyone around him with normal intellect.”

On iTunes radio: “The Blues and the Abstract Truth,” Oliver Nelson. Recorded in 1961, this masterful record is a forgotten classic. If you like Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue,” you’ll love Nelson’s “Abstract Truth.” It’s one of jazz’ essential post-bop recordings.

Dead President: Abraham Lincolnlincoln
