Exchange reporting bill heads to House floor

The House could debate a public exchange activity reporting bill next week.

The House Rules Committee has asked House leaders to set aside a total of one hour of time for debate on the exchange reporting bill, H.R. 3362.

The bill could reach the floor Wednesday or Thursday, according to a calendar posted by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va. 

The bill would require the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to work with other federal and state agencies to give weekly reports on enrollment activity and enrollment website problems.

Managers of many state-based exchanges have been posting weekly activity reports since Oct. 1, when the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act enrollment period started.

HHS has posted detailed monthly reports, but has refused to give daily or weekly enrollment data or give any detailed information about enrollment website problems.

In the past, House Republicans have passed many PPACA-related bills with little or no votes from Democrats. The bills have gone on to die in the Senate.

Also on Friday, Republicans rounded up 67 Democratic votes for H.R. 3811, a bill that would require the HHS secretary to let individuals affected by a PPACA exchange system data breach within two business days after the discovery of the breach. The bill passed 291-122.
