CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Minuteman Health of Massachusetts wants to join Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield on New Hampshire’s public health insurance exchange.

Anthem, a unit of WellPoint Inc. (NYSE:WLP), has been the only carrier selling coverage through that exchange.

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter announced Thursday that federal officials have given Minuteman, a nonprofit insurer, approval to expand into New Hampshire and form a new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) coverage program.

Minuteman hopes to start selling New Hampshire policies late next year, with the first policies sold taking effect in January 2015.

Harvard Pilgrim also has indicated it will offer plans in New Hampshire starting in 2015.
