AXA Equitable adds to variable annuity lineup

Investment Edge is the latest variable annuity from AXA Equitable. Available through the tax-deferred product is a suite of more than 120 investment choices and several distribution options.

The investment options include alternative investments, sector funds and ETFs. Advisors can also choose from 38 pre-packaged portfolios that target a specific asset class or a client’s specific investment objectives.

Investment Edge allows for flexible and customizable distribution of withdrawals. Owners have the ability to access distributions in several ways including the ability to take payments that are only partially taxed.

MassMutual announced that it had sold more than $3 million in annuities so far this year. That sum, which includes fixed, variable and income annuities, exceeded the prior year’s full-year sales total.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation bestowed Transamerica the 2013 Corporate Citizen Award in the category of “Best Community Improvement Program.”

About 120 Transamerica employees created an urban farm and playground in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The neighborhood where the farm is located was devastated by floods in 2008. All told, 1,200 homes were destroyed in the city.

The insurance company partnered with a local charitable organization, “Matthew 25,” to remove 1.5 acres of overgrown vegetation to prepare the area for planting and construction. During its first year of operation, the farm produced 3,500 pounds of food for local residents.
