You are no doubt familiar with SEO, the process of improving your website’s visibility in search engine results. The higher and more frequently a site appears in those results, the more visitors it will receive.

So what’s the simplest way to start improving your SEO? A compelling and regularly updated blog. Studies have shown that companies that blog receive about 55 percent more website traffic than those that don’t.

Types of SEO. There are two distinct types of SEO: off-page SEO and on-page SEO. Off-page SEO involves getting other quality websites to link back to your site. On-page SEO involves including your most important search keywords on the pages of your website.

Blogging provides the ideal platform for increasing a website’s on- and off-page SEO. Here are two reasons why:

  • On-page SEO is affected by keywords. When you create high-quality blog content directed toward your target audience, you’ll increase on-page SEO by using keywords naturally throughout your posts.
  • Off-page SEO is affected primarily by websites that link back to your site. People love sharing useful, meaningful and valuable information, so give them some.

Here’s the bottom line: Advisors who blog generate approximately 67 percent more leads than those who don’t. If you don’t yet have a blog, you’re leaving a lot of business on the table. So take some time each week to develop a valuable and compelling blog that will keep your readers (and clients) coming back for more.
