Cigna Corp. has acquired a company that sends doctors to care for frail, elderly people and chronically ill patients in their own homes.

Cigna bought the company, Alegis Care, from Triton Pacific Capital Partners, a private equity firm.

Cigna’s HealthSpring unit has been getting house call services from the company since 2009.

Alegis was founded in 1995 and has headquarters in Chicago. The company provides physician services and care coordination services for a total of 31,000 seniors in 10 states.

The company will continue to market its services to other health insurers, Cigna said.
