Rhode Island exchange awards communications contract

Organizers of Rhode Island’s public exchange program have put up a consumer website while rolling out a marketing campaign.

The new HealthSource RI site starts with a three-slide entry with the taglines, “See if you qualify for a tax credit,” “Get the affordable care you need,” and “See what HealthSource RI is all about.”

None of the three slides mention the state’s Small Business Health Options Program exchange program, but a menu bar under the slide area offers buttons for employers and brokers as well as for individuals and families.

Exchange builders want to offer both in-person assistance and contact center with extended hours as well as a Web enrollment site. They hope to open the call center Sept. 15, according to a communication plan review prepared by Ian Lang, the exchange marketing director.

HealthSource RI expects to start 2014 with individual “qualified health plans” from two carriers — Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island.

A unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc. would join Rhode Island Blue and Neighborhood Health Plan in the state’s Small Business Health Options Program small-group exchange.
