Data from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development shows the U.S. spent 17.7 percent of its GDP on health care in 2011. None of the OECD’s other 34 member nations spent more than 11.9 percent. Adding insult to injury, there is a debate about how well the U.S. health-care system works.
