Federal rule extends subsidies for college students

The fog around a certain aspect of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act lifted last week. The Department of Health and Human Services and the Treasury Department clarified the rule that students enrolled in colleges that self-insure will still be eligible for federal subsidies as long as they do not enroll in their school’s plan and they make between 100 percent and 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.
