Horace’s definition of poetry was also the aim of salons throughout history:  Either to please or to educate. And although the modern death salons, now called Death Cafes and located via Facebook announcements, are dealing with the topic of our own mortality, Horace’ aims can be met. Over coffee and cake, Americans are gathering to philosophize about death; finding out what it means to them by hearing about what it means to others. Quite a valiant undertaking by a small group to take on (for recreation) a topic we naturally hide from.
