This year at Insite, Pershing’s much-buzzed-about annual conference, the financial business solutions provider will introduce the newest, mobile-friendly version of its NetX360 platform for advisors.

Already available through the Apple iTunes App Store, NetX360 Mobile Version 3.0.19 was updated on iTunes on April 16 and can be used on a wide variety of devices, including the iPhone, Android, iPad, BlackBerry and Microsoft Surface Pro tablet. Three years ago, Pershing was the first of the major custodians to introduce mobile applications for advisors, shortly after Apple introduced the iPad.

Insite 2013, to be held June 5-7 at the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood, Fla., will provide a forum for new NetX360 Mobile users to learn more about the updated platform. (In addition, keynote speakers include Hillary Rodham Clinton and Peyton Manning among other luminaries.)

$2 Billion Tech Budget

A BNY Mellon company, Pershing leverages the deep pockets of its parent firm in a way that many competitors can’t match. A significant portion of BNY Mellon’s $2 billion technology budget goes to Pershing, and those funds give Pershing the freedom to conduct extensive research and development projects via a team of 40 professionals in a usability testing lab, according to Co-Chief Information Officers Lucille Mayer and Ram Nagappan.

“The way we implement technology is different from other financial services firms,” Mayer said in April during an interview and tour of the testing lab at Pershing’s offices. “The differentiator is our extensive product management, including face-to-face conversations between intermediaries and advisors.”

Mayer and Nagappan were named to Computerworld’s 2013 Premier 100 IT Leaders list earlier this year.

Every year, Pershing reviews the latest technology trends and then figures out how to apply them to the advisor industry, Nagappan said. This year, he said, the seven biggest trends are:

  1. Mobility
  2. Globalization (multicurrency and multilanguage with a single entry point)
  3. Consumerization (consumers drive the leading edge of IT)
  4. The Cloud
  5. Big Data and Analytics
  6. Security and Risk
  7. Collaboration

‘With Big Data, We Capture Every Click’

“The demand from the investor and advisor will force these changes, especially with younger generations,” Nagappan said. “With Big Data, we capture every click—millions and millions—so our user experience lab can determine if a job can get done in just a few clicks.”

In a sneak peek of how the new version of NetX360 works via the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet’s Windows 8 Pro operating system, an April 30 Pershing release says the app allows investment advisors to have NetX360 open and accessible, while simultaneously working on a document or spreadsheet in a different application.

This operating system not only allows every Microsoft program to appear and work as it would on a desktop personal computer, but it also permits several applications to run on the Surface Pro tablet at one time, according to the release.

“We strive to anticipate our clients’ needs and deliver our platform across any device so that they can focus on their clients and the growth of their business. The addition of Microsoft Surface Pro to the array of mobile devices that can support NetX360 speaks to our commitment to putting our clients’ needs first and gives them the choice of how they access our platform,” Naggapan said in a statement. “NetX360 on the Surface Pro is the latest in a series of mobile innovations and solutions” spanning more than 20 years, and “we will continue to bring new mobile solutions to meet the needs of investment advisors.”
