For the first time, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have made public what a group of 3,000 individual hospitals charge for the most common diagnoses and treatments. The data show interesting differences between what hospitals in the same town and state charge, as well as regional pricing trends throughout the country. The data not only include the amount that hospitals charge but also the amount that CMS pays.
