Efforts are underway to rewrite the rules that govern how family physicians (formerly referred to as general practitioners) train in contraception education and counseling to women with unintended pregnancies. Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, women will have greater access to contraception but because of cumbersome training for busy family physicians, many feel there will not be enough doctors to keep up with demand.
