Safety agency says baby study failed to disclose risks

The University of Alabama Birmingham and others are being berated by the Office for Human Research Protections, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, for not properly disclosing to parents the risk of death or blindness in a study of how much oxygen premature infants should be given. The university maintains that death rates in the study were lower than those of nonstudy infants at participating hospitals.
