In the last few decades, a number of evidence-based psychological therapies put into practice have shown some impressive results in treating various kinds of mental problems. The only problem is that a lot of people who need these therapies aren’t actually getting them. It turns out, most patients, when they enter therapy, get some kind of treatment that has more to do with their doctor’s preferences and training, than on the latest psychological research. In an age where health care of all kinds is getting ever more expensive, for so much therapy to do little more than enrich therapists seems like a waste.
