There are quite a few insurance apps out there these days. Some are worth your time. Many others … seriously aren’t.

We weeded through the options and selected four downloads you likely won’t regret. From an app that uses ninjas to teach clients about DI to one that will help you ace your licensing exam, these picks can help boost business and … dare we say it? … make insurance agents look cool in the process.

Defend Your Income

Defend Your Income

For: Apple and Android devices

Cost: Free

www.defendyourincome.org

No offense, guys, but this industry’s selling tools aren’t exactly known for their wit and creativity. This app might change that. Produced by the Council for Disability Awareness, Defend Your Income is an educational game that puts users in a virtual dojo. There, they’re forced to fend off blows from shadowy attackers like Cancer, Respiratory Disease and, my personal favorite, Pregnancy Complications, whose nickname is “Special Delivery.” After each round, trivia questions and random facts help teach about the prevalence of disability. Other portions of the site let users gauge their disability likelihood (and potential lost income) and learn about steps they can take to protect themselves. It’s a must-have for anyone selling disability insurance.

Just download Mobile Life Insurance Quotes from IENetwork. In a matter of clicks, agents can fill out client data, choose a product type and get quotes from more than 100 carriers. Want to customize your results list to include only the carriers you work with? Upgrading to a paid version will let you do just that.

You probably already use Insurance Forums, the popular site for agents seeking information, giving advice and, okay, just complaining. This app lets you take all those threads — from “CRM Question???” to “Beautician DI policy” — with you wherever you go.

Life & Health Agent PrepLife & Health Agent Prep

Studying for a state life insurance exam could entail hours at your desk, heavy books and coffee breath. Or it could just mean flipping through this exam prep app while you’re in line at the grocery store, waiting for the bus or lounging on your couch. Life & Health Agent Prep helps agents get ready for state licensing exams with more than 500 multiple choice quiz questions, 575 electronic flashcards and a glossary with common terms and definitions. Learning modules are broken down by subject: life insurance, health insurance, taxation and retirement plans, and life and health acronyms. And if that’s not good enough, users can also create their own custom modules, flashcards and glossary content.
