Healthy behaviors fall in areas hit by Superstorm Sandy

Superstorm Sandy not only disrupted economic activity, and utility and transportation services, but healthy behavior as well. Following the Eastern Seaboard’s pummeling in late 2012, Gallop found residents of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut were 13 percent less likely to report exercising for 30 minutes, three days a week than before the storm. The Gallop index usually sees a decrease in healthy activity in the winter months, but these three states show double the decrease of the national average during the same time period.
