The Substance abuse and Mental Health Services Administration warns that energy drinks are a “continuing public health concern” and ERs around the country may be able to confirm that. Energy-drink-related visits to the hospital jumped tenfold from 2005-2011. However, it should be noted that of the 20,783 ER visits in 2011, 58 percent involved energy drinks alone. The remainder were attributed to mixing energy drinks with other substances.
