A research center polled U.S. adults and found that the survey participants see little evidence that Republicans in Congress are making a serious effort to work with President Obama to address the federal budget deficit. Just 32 percent of all voters, 30 percent of independents and 19 percent of Democrats think the GOP is serious about making a deal. A narrow majority of the Republican participants — 52 percent — said they think GOP lawmakers are serious about negotiating.
