LTCI Watch: Producers

A few weeks ago, we ran a review of “The Outgoing Tide,” dementia a drama about a family coping with dementia.

It hit me that writers and other artists have tended over the years to write more about what it’s like to be a child than what it’s like to be old.

There are, certainly, famous, ancient stories about old age, estate planning and end-of-life planning issues.

In Oedipus at Colonus,  for example, Oedipus resolves a succession planning problem involving his sons, who both want to use his dead body to become king, by cursing them to kill each other.

But, really, there are not that many movies, television shows, high-profile plays or popular songs that leap to mind that focus on long-term care.

Maybe, in better times, when the Federal Reserve System gets its boot off the long-term care insurance (LTCI) industry, the LTCI community could gather the resources to help executive produce shows hinging on LTC issues.

Some ideas:

Star Trek: The Old Old Generation — The Starship Excelsior prides itself on the daycare center and school its provides for crewmembers. Will he need to save the colonists on Rigel V keep him from meeting the LTC program application deadline? Will he have to go back in time to come up with the required financial documentation?

The Brady Bunch: 50 Years Later — The Bradies had the last laugh, indeed, when it turned out that having six children was a great way to prepare for LTC needs. But what will happen to Alice, the childless housekeeper? The answer involves a Silver Platters revival band …

The Wandering Bionic Woman –A dementia floor? That’s fine for some people with mood and memory problems — but not for a woman with legs that can go up to 80 miles per hour — and a right arm that can punch through steel…
