U.S. adults are famous for not thinking much about how they’ll pay for long-term are (LTC) if they end up needing it.

Analysts at Northwestern Mutual have found that U.S. adults are not necessarily thinking more clearly about LTC services than they are about long-term care insurance (LTCI).

The analysts have published that finding in a summary of results from a recent survey of 2,516 American adults ages 18 and older.

About 32 percent of the survey participants admitted that they have not thought about their personal LTC needs or do not plan to think about their future LTC needs.

Another 21 percent said they had almost no idea what LTC options were available.

Only about half were familiar with assisted living facilities.

Only 35 percent said they think of using in-home care provided by a family member to be an option, and ony 35% said they think of staying in a nursing home as a decent a long-term care option.
