Researchers at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland have figured out how to take mutated mitochondrial DNA out of women’s eggs and replace it with healthy DNA from other women’s eggs. Once fertilized, the eggs are then able to create healthy embryos. It’s a development that could help eliminate genetic disorders, but it raises a whole host of moral, ethical and social questions.
