Janney Montgomery Scott said Wednesday that it hired a team of four FAs from Morgan Stanley (MS) and an executive from Stifel Nicolaus (SF). The regional firm said the new team is moving to Janney in Columbia and Hilton Head, S.C., with about $220 million in assets.

Andrew Kistler, formerly of Stifel Nicolaus, is now the regional manager of Janney’s Southeast operations and will be “leading the continued expansion of the firm’s presence in the Southeast,” the company says.

“During the past several years, despite the challenging operating environment in the financial services industry, Janney has demonstrated the ability to be agile and take advantage of the right opportunities to advance our strategic plan,” said Jerry Lombard, president of the firm’s Private Client Group, in a press release. “The addition of Andrew and expansion in our Southeast region, along with the addition of the Palmetto Advisor Group, demonstrates how we are concentrating our efforts within existing markets that we believe present an opportunity for growth.”

Kistler had been with Stifel since 2009, where he was the firm’s regional director for the Southeast. Earlier, the 30-year industry veteran served as the eastern divisional director for H&R Block Financial Advisors; he spent nearly 20 years with the Robinson-Humphrey Co./Smith Barney.

“Having been in the business for almost 30 years as an advisor, branch manager and regional director, I’ve learned a thing or two about what matters most when it comes to being successful,” said Kistler in a statement. “Most importantly, is an unwavering focus on serving the needs of the client and advisor–and Janney shares this value.”

As of early October, Janney has 736 employee financial advisors with $55.4 billion in assets under management. Many of its advisors do business on the East Coast, and the broker-dealer is part of Penn Mutual Life Insurance. It recruited a UBS (UBS) advisor in late August with about $100 million in assets.

In March, Janney opened an office in Aiken, S.C. It currently has offices in Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., Spartanburg, S.C., and Raleigh, N.C., in addition to its locations in Columbia and Hilton Head.

The newest addition to these regional operations is the Palmetto Advisory Group. It includes wealth managers/advisors E.H. “Chip” Stanley Jr., Geddings H. Crawford Jr., Linda S. Fraser and Geoffery K. Forsyth.
