Recently, we had the opportunity to speak with a group of undecided Boomer clients to find out what they think about Presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Read on to find out their thoughts on the race. Also, if you have talked with boomers about this election please comment below or send us your thoughts at [email protected].
I’m just annoyed at both of them. After the financial crisis, I really thought Obama would come in and clean up Wall Street. Well, here we are almost four years later and nothing’s changed. The banks are still screwing the little guy — even more so now with the tight credit — all while the sleazy Bernie Madoff-types get richer. We can’t afford to be subsidizing these criminals. I was really hoping the fiscal conservatives in the Republican Party would nominate someone who could rein these guys in, but Romney obviously won’t do that.

I like that Obama is for the middle class, and I think that he has tried to help the middle class. He seems sincere, and I think he would keep trying to give middle-class folks a break. On the other hand, I prefer Romney’s stance on social issues. He has traditional American values, which are also very important to me. He doesn’t want to take the country off into wild, untested ground like Obama.

There are things that really frighten me about both candidates. There’s really not much to like about either of them, for me. For instance, as a soon-to-be-retired woman, Romney’s plan for Medicare (I think the plan is to kill it off completely) scares me to death. Once you get up in years, just one serious illness can wipe you out financially. And with Obama, the whole rationed healthcare thing — I was against that, too. So far, it hasn’t been that bad, Obamacare, but I know a lot of that law hasn’t gone into effect yet. I guess we’ll see.
