The notion that you’ll spend less in retirement is totally wrong

Think you will spend less when retired? Think again. According to researchers at Bernstein Global Wealth Management, that is flat-out wrong, and for several reasons. Retirees will be shelling out more money in their golden years due to higher health-care costs ($240,000 for a couple retiring today without employer-based health coverage); financial support of children (down payments on their kids’ homes) and grandchildren (tuition); and pricey vacations. Even filling up your idle time with small pleasures costs $57 a month.
