Mexico’s Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Jose Antonio Meade, was on hand at the opening of the New York Life Tower, a 32 story-tower on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue in Mexico City’s central zone.

Seguros Monterrey New York Life (SMNYL) is a wholly-owned Mexican subsidiary of New York Life and the second –largest life insurer in Mexico.

The tower was inspired by the El Angel de la Independencia (The Angel of Independence) monument that was built to commemorate the beginning of Mexico’s War of Independence. Easily one of the most recognizable landmarks in Mexico, the monument stands right in front of the New York Life Tower.

The 32-story building, now one of the tallest in Mexico will house 2,500 SMNYL employees and agents. The tower has also received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for its use of natural light and its green building design standards.

“New York Life is enormously proud of what Seguros Monterrey has accomplished in over 70 years of serving the people of Mexico. The state-of-the-art New York Life Tower stands proudly as a symbol of our commitment to Mexico and the strong partnership between the two countries,” said New York Life’s Chairman and CEO Ted Mathas.
