India’s Power Minister Veerappa Moily confirmed Wednesday morning that power had been fully restored. Moily said an investigation into the cause of the blackout has launched, but he did not want to point fingers or speculate about the cause. The two-day blackout left 620 million without electricity. The Confederation of Indian Industry puts the loss to business in the hundreds of millions of dollars, though the financial center of Mumbai, and Bangalore and Hyderabad in the south were not affected. Government bureaucracy has prevented new power plants from coming online to keep up with India’s growing—and power-hungry—affluent population.
