Commonwealth Financial Network announced the launch of a new blog by its chief investment officer, Brad McMillan, that is aimed at general investors and will address developments in the economy and the markets. Called The Independent Market Observer, the blog is designed, the company said, to educate both financial advisors and their clients, using McMillan’s insights and those of Commonwealth’s investment research department.

Brad McMillan, CIO, Commonwealth FinancialMcMillan (left) holds degrees from Dartmouth, MIT and Boston College, and has the CFA, CAIA, MAI and IAF designations. He has contributed to Investment Advisor magazine in the past, such as this prescient article from 2010 on the proper place of gold in client portfolios, and is a popular speaker at Commonwealth advisor gatherings, known for his deadpan but humorous and informed delivery on the direction of the markets and the economy.

His Commonwealth Financial colleague, Gavin Morrissey, is a regular contributor to AdvisorOne, writing on tax planning, philanthropy and other wealth management issues for advisors and their clients. In June, he blogged about  “zeroed-out” grantor-retained annuity trusts (GRATs).
