Symetra Life Insurance Company, Bellevue, Wash., has announced the establishment of a new group life and disability insurance (DI) claims team that will provide integrated claims and absence management support to employers and their employees.

With the goal of expanding their group life and DI business, the nascent in-house claims team will be based in Enfield Conn.

The team will be led by Lora Lyons, and supported by an integrated system that administers life insurance claims, short-and long-term disability claims and a wide array of federal employee leaves, including those related to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Military duty, jury duty and sabbaticals.

The managed leave program, which was built for companies with over 200 employees, gives employers a single, consolidated report that encapsulates all employee leaves for the client company as opposed to separate reports for each type of leave. Symetra also provides advanced warnings of augmentations made to existing laws so that companies have time to adjust their internal processes.

“These advanced capabilities support our advocacy-based approach to absence management. We put employees at the center of the process and provide the resources they need to return to work. Our hands-on support ensures employees understand the rights and responsibilities associated with their leaves, minimizing complications down the road. This personalized attention benefits both employees and employers as we all have a shared goal of getting the employee to a better place,” said Tom Foran, vice president of Symetra’s Group Life and DI business.
