Costco Wholesale’s partnership with Aetna to offer health insurance services is one of convenience for both. Consider Costco’s affluent customer base. This demographic typically has a low-risk profile making it much easier for Aetna to provide insurance services. The five newly introduced plans have lower monthly premiums and low-cost pharmacy services for Costco members. Costco could be looking to leverage this customer base to partner with strong industry players in order to expand its portfolio of products. The wholesaler partnered with a few banks recently and now offers mortgage services. The health plans are available in Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. More states will be added later this year.
