Many insurance and financial professionals believe that they are miles from the financial success they desire. The truth is that most are only inches from financial success beyond their wildest dreams.

Why do so few of us become financially successful? Many have developed amazing and admirable strengths. They have succeeded at being great wives and husbands, or fathers and mothers, or friends and partners. If they know success in their other endeavors why does financial success elude them?

The answer is simple.

Start with a plan

A plan is a must. Improvement requires that we strengthen ourselves physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually on a regular basis. Being the best insurance and financial professionals we can be should be our ideal.

My personal plan begins with heroes to emulate. Anthony Robbins, Earl Nightingale, Zig Ziglar, and many others who share wisdom make it clear: If you want financial success, find someone who is already successfully doing what you want to do and copy them. The key to turning my career around was to listen, over and over again, to Denis Waitley, John Savage, Ben Feldman, Roger Zener, etc.

In fact, I credit some of my success to a columnist in this magazine, Kerry Johnson. One of my first study programs was “Sales Magic.” Kerry and others taught me that great selling was a learned skill. If it could be learned, then anyone could do it. And I am living proof.

Great training and coaching can help you achieve success rapidly. Our industry is blessed with many great coaches. Sign up and make a commitment to your financial and professional success.

My heroes have always been and always will be NAIFA and MDRT presidents. The Chairs of Top of the Table are my idols. These individuals have superior production yet they find time to serve and lead. How do they do it? Ask them. They will be happy to tell you. Then immediately apply my rule of 72. Try to do what they have shared within 72 hours and it will become yours.

Attend every national NAIFA, MDRT and Top of the Table meeting. If you can’t go, buy the CDs. Attend your state and local NAIFA meetings. Attend every meeting like it that you can. Surround yourself with people you want to be like. They will rub off on you.

I could use every word of this column for an entire year in an attempt to thank all these great people for their help and there still wouldn’t be enough space.

Find someone who is doing what you want to do and ask for help. Financial success is just a question away.

“Our industry is blessed with many great coaches.”
