New Hire Roundup: Putnam Advances Sipple; Hewson Joins Citi Private Bank

This week in new hires, Scott Sipple moved up at Putnam Investments; Mark Hewson went to Citi Private Bank; Bradford Campbell joined Drinker Biddle; Kimberley Branch and John Forrest went to Symetra; and SNR Denton welcomed Lisa Ledbetter.

Also, Claudia Mansfield Sutton joined IRI; FiPath welcomed Michael Turgeon; Joanne Rodgers moved up at New York Life; and Paul Tetrault rose at NAMIC.

Putnam Names Sipple to Head Investment Product Management/Development

Putnam Investments announced Tuesday that it has named Scott Sipple as head of investment product management and development, responsible for overseeing the firm’s equity, fixed income and global asset allocation product management and development teams. In addition to his new role, Sipple, with more than 25 years of industry experience, will continue to oversee Putnam’s strategic relationship function, and continue to report to William T. Connolly, head of global distribution.

Robert L. Reynolds, president and CEO, indicated that corporate marketing, advertising and sports sponsorship programs will continue to be spearheaded by Mark McKenna, and its strategic communications efforts, including public and community relations, will continue to be led by Jon Goldstein. McKenna and Goldstein will now report directly to Reynolds, who noted that Jeffrey R. Carney, former head of marketing and product, will be leaving the firm to pursue other opportunities and that his role will not be replaced.

Citi Private Bank Announces Mark Hewson Joins Foreign Exchange Team

Citi Private Bank announced March 6 that Mark Hewson has joined the firm as director and foreign exchange investment specialist. He is based in San Francisco and will report to Francois Du Pasquier, managing director, head of foreign exchange and commodities.

He joins from Wells Fargo in San Francisco, where he was senior vice president and national sales manager. Before joining Wells in 2007, Hewson was regional sales director and risk solutions consultant at Travelex in Los Angeles; prior to that, he held senior FX sales positions at Bank of the West and Ruesch International.

Former DOL Assistant Secretary Campbell Joins Drinker Biddle

Bradford Campbell Drinker Biddle announced recently that former assistant secretary of labor for employee benefits and head of the Employee Benefits Security Administration Bradford Campbell (left) has joined the firm. His practice is concentrated in employee benefits and ERISA litigation, specializing in ERISA Title I issues, including fiduciary conduct and prohibited transactions.

Campbell previously held a number of other senior positions in the government, including deputy assistant secretary of labor for employee benefits, senior legislative officer for the Department of Labor, legislative director for then-Congressman Ernest Fletcher, and senior legislative assistant for then-congressman, later Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Cox.

Symetra Gains Two

Kimberly Branch has joined Symetra Investment Services Inc. as chief marketing officer and John Forrest has joined as director of business development. Both executives report to SIS President Richard Moran.

Branch was most recently president of 4WARD Financial Marketing. Forrest will be responsible for relationship management, advisor development and sales management, and joins SIS from Lincoln Financial Network.

Lisa Ledbetter Joins SNR Denton

SNR Denton announced March 8 that Lisa Ledbetter has joined the firm as a partner in its financial institutions regulatory practice. Ledbetter joins from Freddie Mac, where she was most recently vice president and deputy general counsel, and is resident in the firm’s office in Washington, D.C.

Prior to Freddie Mac, Ledbetter held several senior positions at the FDIC. Before that, she served on the banking and finance team at the Department of the Treasury, and held positions at the American Bankers Association and the Independent Community Bankers of America.

IRI Welcomes Claudia Mansfield Sutton as New Chief Operating Officer

The Insured Retirement Institute announced that Claudia Mansfield Sutton has joined the association as its COO. Sutton brings experience in government affairs, association management and business and most recently was executive director of the Student & Youth Travel Association and the SYTA Youth Foundation. She also served five years as the associate executive director of the American Association of School Administrators.

Previously she was president and CEO of the Association, Education, and Business Institute and vice president of strategic marketing and government affairs for WRC Media Inc. Her career began as a secondary education teacher in McKeesport Area School District in Pennsylvania, before serving in marketing and government affairs positions for two educational software companies–Computer Curriculum Corp., a Simon & Schuster company, and Plato Education Services, a division of Control Data Corp.

FiPath Appoints Michael Turgeon Managing Director of Advisor Services

FiPath announced Tuesday the appointment of Michael Turgeon as managing director of advisor services. In this role, he will be responsible for the establishment of enterprise sales and marketing initiatives for FiPath for Advisors.

Previously he served in senior leadership roles with American Century Investments. Prior to this he was senior vice president and national sales manager, strategic markets, for Phoenix Investment Partners Ltd. Early in his career he was a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley (then Dean Witter), and began his career with Merrill Lynch.

New York Life Appoints Joanne Rodgers as Chief Diversity Officer

New York Life announced Monday the appointment of Joanne Rodgers as chief diversity officer, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm’s diversity program. She reports to Hy Pomerance, first vice president and chief talent officer. She has worked with cultural and women’s markets in various capacities during her 18-year career at the firm.

Rodgers joined in 1994 and has held positions of increasing responsibility working in the corporate compliance, agency and strategy departments. Most recently, as vice president of strategy, she was responsible for identifying and advancing key themes of strategic importance, managing the corporate business planning cycle, and leading a variety of strategic initiatives. Prior to joining, she worked with the National Association of Securities Dealers (now FINRA) and Shearson Lehman Brothers.

NAMIC Names Tetrault State and Policy Affairs Counsel

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Cos. has named Paul Tetrault to the position of state and policy affairs counsel. In his new position, his duties will include regulatory issue management, legal analysis, and public policy development in support of NAMIC’s state and policy affairs department. He will be part of the team responsible for covering developments at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and will also serve as liaison to national legislative organizations on tort reform and civil-justice-related matters. He will continue to be based in the Boston area and will cover legislative and regulatory issues in Massachusetts.

He has served as northeast state affairs manager for NAMIC for more than six years. Previously, he practiced law at a Boston law firm, and served as a judicial law clerk at the Massachusetts Appeals Court. Before that, he spent 11 years as a writer and editor at The Standard, a 130-year-old trade publication covering the insurance industry in New England.
