Despite being a vocal and well-respected advocate of holding advisors to the highest possible standard, Matthew Hutcheson is currently under investigation by the U.S. Labor Department for possibly mismanaging his clients’ retirement money. On paper, Hutcheson was someone you might be forgiven for blindly trusting. His investigation is a timely reminder that it’s important for clients to frequently verify that their 401(k) money is where it’s supposed to be. In addition, it’s important that clients work closely with their advisors and don’t put too much faith in designations and degrees. These help, but they’re no guarantee that an investment is safe.
