Newt Gingrich’s Changing Stance on Health-Care Mandates (Washington Post)

Try following the trail of Newt Gingrich’s support for the individual mandate, and you’re likely to become very, very confused. The former House Speaker infamously supported the mandate back in the mid-90s, when it was viewed as a conservative measure to stop HillaryCare in its tracks. Since mid-summer, however, the GOP candidate has taken quite a different tack, calling our current health care reform’s individual mandate “unconstitutional” and “fundamentally wrong.” Recently, he has acknowledged this disconnect in past and present politics, but only when asked point blank about the issue. As a result, the Washington Post’s “Fact Checker,” Glenn Kessler, awards him two “Pinocchios” for false testimony.
