Is entrepreneurship over-rated? The author of this opinion piece argues that real job- and value-creation comes not from turning college grads into entrepreneurs, who end up wasting millions on building social networks that are simply bought and put out of business by larger social networks.

Instead, according to the author, the focus should be on hiring thousands of people into growing companies that can organize and motivate employees to make the most of their unique talents. Larger companies can offer the practical business skills that turn young people into project managers, marketers and human resources specialists.

True, these jobs don’t generate revenue directly, like entrepreneur-driven start-ups do. However, they are the building blocks that allow companies to run efficiently, build economies of scale and grow. And, the author says, they’re equally deserving of glorification.
