Northwestern Mutual Foundation’s focus on children with cognitive, physical and mental disabilities will supply over 14 nonprofits with over $355,000 in grants throughout the state of Wisconsin through their special needs grant program.

The Northwestern Mutual Foundation, the charitable arm of The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee, WI, has placed a great emphasis on future generations in areas where employees and financial representatives both live and work.

“Every person-and especially every child-deserves the chance to embrace their full potential, so we collaborate with best-in-class organizations that serve those with special needs,” said Northwestern Mutual Foundation president, John Kordsmeier in a statement.

St. Francis Children’s Center of Glendale WI, was one of this year’s recipients. The center focuses on therapies and education for children developmental delays, neuromuscular disorders, learning disabilities as well as those with behavioral issues. “In the short-term, these services help children reach goals; the long-term effect is often significant economic and social rewards for the children, their families and our community,” said Gerald Coon, executive director of St. Frances Children’s Center.

Other organizations receiving a special needs grant include: ARC Milwaukee; Badger Association for the Blind; Best Buddies, Center for Communication, Hearing and Deafness; Children’s Service Society; Courage Center; Easter Seals of Southeastern Wisconsin; Grand Avenue Club; Independence First; Milwaukee Center for Independence; Penfield Children’s Center; United Cerebral Palsy and Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
