MIT Economist Jonathan Gruber will share his unique take on the world of health care in his forthcoming comic book, Health Care Reform: What It Is, Why It’s Necessary, How It Works. The book, set to publish in December, takes a lighthearted, visual approach to a very complex topic.

As one would expect of the genre, the tone is playfully charming. A two-headed alligator represents the twin health menaces of “rising costs” and “the number of uninsured.” Health reform’s high-risk pools become swimming pools. And yet, at 152 pages, it’s not simply a light read. As with anything related to health care reform, readers must be prepared to digest a good deal of information about one of our country’s most controversial — and critical — issues.
