The latest investment trend for Baby Boomers? Real estate. At a time when low interest rates have made traditional investments less appealing and plunging property values have made housing less expensive, many Baby Boomers are looking to obtain an income property that can help carry them through their retirement years.

In fact, a recent Coldwell Banker Real Estate survey showed that nine out of ten agents have at least one Boomer client who owns or plans to own an investment property.

Is this a good idea? Experts agree that rental properties can be a smart way to generate cash flow once your salaried days have ended. An income property is not the right investment for everyone — there are budgeting and maintenance issues to consider — but for financially stable Boomers, it can offer a prime opportunity to create a steady income stream.
