Kimberly Lankford of Kiplinger advises a consumer that, yes, it’s true: The amount workers are spending on group health coverage is going up. Overall group health premiums grew 160% from 1999 to 2011, while workers’ average earnings rose just 50%. But employees’ share of the premiums varies greatly from employer to employer, and, even at a single employer, the amount an employee pays may vary from option to option, so it’s important to look at each option carefully, Lankford says.
