CIGNA Corp. has agreed to acquire FirstAssist Insurance Services Ltd. from the private equity arm of Barclays P.L.C.
CIGNA, Philadelphia (NYSE:CI), is making the deal because it sees strong growth in demand for travel and travel insurance in the European and Asian markets, the company says.
FirstAssist, London, has about 3 million policyholders in the United Kingdom and about 480 employees.
CIGNA already has a large international health insurance business.
