WellPoint Inc. says it hopes to use the acquisition of CareMore Medical Group Inc. to improve health care delivery in WellPoint markets throughout the United States.

WellPoint, Indianapolis (NYSE:WLP), closed on the previously announced acquisition of CareMore, Cerritos, Calif., earlier this week.

CareMore uses neighborhood care centers to deliver care to 54,000 Medicare Advantage plan enrollees and Special Needs Plan enrollees in Arizona, California and Nevada.

A CareMore neighborhood care center puts doctors, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, podiatrists, physical therapists, nutritionists, psychologists and case managers under one roof.

Regulators in CareMore markets have approved the WellPoint-CareMore deal more quickly than expected, WellPoint says.

WellPoint President Angela Braly says WellPoint now wants to expand use of the CareMore approach throughout the country.

In other business growth news, the risk solutions unit of LexisNexis, New York, a unit of Reed Elsevier Group P.L.C., London, has signed an interconnectivity agreement with Assurex Global Corp., Columbus, Ohio.

The companies will integrated Assurex Global’s Assurex Global Passport broker communications system with the LexisNexis Insurance Exchange system.

The move will help make it easier for brokers and independent agents to set up a client at Assurex and submit applications within the exchange system, LexisNexis says.
