Baird has hired five ex-Morgan Stanley Smith Barney advisors with more than $250 million in client assets to join a new branch office in Salt Lake City, the broker-dealer said Monday.

The five FAs joining Baird are Fred Wheeler, Jan Bayle, Alex Wheeler, Barbara Campbell and Jery Mariani.

“We are very pleased to welcome these wealth management professionals to Baird and actively begin serving high net worth families and individuals in the Salt Lake City region,” said Dean Cottle (left), branch manager for Baird in Salt Lake City, in a statement.  “These advisors are seasoned industry veterans with tremendous track records of success, and we are delighted they have chosen to continue their careers at Baird.”

Baird tapped Cottle—another Morgan Stanley veteran—in March. Cottle held branch management roles at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and predecessor firms Shearson Lehman Bros. and E.F. Hutton in the Salt Lake and San Francisco regions.

Wheeler, Wheeler, and Bayle will work together as the Wheeler Bayle Group; Fred Wheeler and Bayle began working together more than 30 years ago at Foster & Marshall, a legacy Morgan Stanley Smith Barney firm, and along with Alex Wheeler formed The Wheeler Bayle Group in 2000. Campbell and Mariani will work together as the PMC Group, which Campbell and Mariani founded in 2001 at Smith Barney.

Bairds says its private wealth management business continues to grow around the country and has added more than 200 financial advisors and branch managers since early 2009, the vast majority of whom are industry veterans.

Advisors with Milwaukee-based Baird, which is employee owned, oversaw more than $66 billion in client assets as of March 31.
