A committee at the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) is asking for comments about how insurers are handling closed blocks of health insurance business.
The Health, Long-Term Care & Health Retirement Issues Committee at NCOIL, Troy, N.Y., will be inviting both insurers and consumers to share any concerns about membership and pricing at plans in closed blocks of health insurance business.
In a closed block, the plans are no longer sold, but the remaining plans cover the claims of insureds who continue to pay premiums to keep coverage in force.
The NCOIL committee decided to ask for comments about the closed-block issue at NCOIL’s recent summer meeting in Newport, R.I., NCOIL officials say in a newsletter describing the meeting.
