The Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Foundation has given its Quality of Life award to Kamal Daya, a Dallas agent who has made a difference in India.
The MDRT Foundation, Park Ridge, Ill., honored Daya, a native of Mumbai, for his work with the Fidai Educational Institution in Andheri West, a suburb of Mumbai.
The foundation also has given a $25,000 grant to Fidai. The grant is the first Quality of Life award grant that the foundation has to made to a charity based outside the United States.
Fidai runs two schools that serve a total of about 1,000 students in some of the poorest areas of Mumbai. Daya has helped Fidai build state-of-the-art language labs and stock the labs with hundreds of Hindi and Marathi-language books.
Daya, an agent with New York Life Insurance Company, New York, has supported Fidai together with his wife, Connie Daya.
Daya says he has always wanted to help the people of his home country, and that the MDRT Foundation has supported his efforts there.
“I hope that by providing educational tools to the children in India they will have a better chance of finding work and escaping multigenerational poverty,” Daya says.
